The Founding Crossing

Before the metropolis, there was a dangerous crossing—and a reason to build a bridge.

Before the city, merchants crossing the canyon faced perilous routes or long detours, although the river connected more distant settlements.

Wealthy trading families and landholders financed a permanent stone crossing and received toll rights with obligations for its upkeep. Communities of workers, guards, travelers and merchants grew at both ends and eventually became one metropolis.
